Greg Laswells future plans. The same as yesterday.
2008-04-16 17:13I'm pretty sure that Laswell is exhausted these days. He just got off a few week tour with the Hotel Cafe crew, and this weekend he will head out to Europe until the middle of May. I must say that I'm extremely jealous of this man, as about 3 years ago today, we were probably smoking cigarettes on his front porch in San Diego complaining about the weather.
He's come a long way since those days in North Park, at least when it comes to the public eye. With songs all over TV shows, a Cyndi Lauper cover that was the best selling folk song on Itunes, and an appearance in Ingrid Michaelsons "The Way I Am" music video, Laswell is getting exposed. And he's been spotted w/ Mandy Moore in the past. One would think that all this success has gone to his head, and people change with time.
I'll disagree. Laswell and I still talk here and there, despite living in two seperate California cities. He's still the same old guy, and we still have the same old inside jokes. I just don't see him everyday anymore. But when we talk, it's as if time hasn't passed in the slightest. He's still writing. He still likes wallowing in heartbreak. He still enjoys stocking his house with Jack Daniels. And he enjoys LA. (I DESPISE LA!!)
When asking about his future his plans, he ususally responds with 'eh, tour, then who knows?' Laswell lives by his moments. He released his first CD with no label backing, and sold about 6,000 copies. These days, you can't find that CD. But what you can find is his new "How the Day Sounds." It's a small EP of 6 songs that he wrote during a period of ups and downs.
What's missing from this beautiful disc is a few songs I was around to hear him write. "This Little Guitar." "The Way it Moves," and various other tidbits from songs are missing on his new cd. Hopefully he's scheduled these gems for a future release. Until then, I'll just have to tease you and let you know that they're out there.
Greg isn't the type of guy you could ever pin down to promise anything. It wasn't a bad thing. It was how it was, and it is how it is. Don't hold your breath about him releasing this song or that song that you will hear at a show. He's gonna do what he likes. The best part of this, is that you will always like it.
